What is it?

Kural is a modern interpretation of Sangam, unlimited by language or any affiliation.

Kural is a literary, multi-lingual, visual magazine for unheard voices. Kural is a community of creative literates - people that take pleasure in writing, reading and making new things using any language. Kural magazine will publish works of art that are first staged during the community events.

How does it work?

Kural members will meet across chapters periodically and hold literary events. Participants are encouraged to bring their original works of art and stage a performance. It could be a poetry reading, a visual exhibit of art or a reading of a selected passage from a longer original work.

Apart from original works, there will also be literary meditations and readings of works, both popular and niche. Every event will have a designated host or hosts that will conduct the event in a meditative, inclusive, seriously fun and nourishing fashion.

Kural memberships and publications will be free forever. We will outline the submission process and publication details in due course.

Rules

We will be establishing a community guideline as a living document - in the meantime here are some basic rules:

  1. Membership, participation and inclusion in a chapter are based on invitation and shall be the decision of the hosts.
  2. Blind Selection: Selection process will be done without access to the author’s identity to avoid any intentional / unintentional biases.
  3. Preference will be given to voices that are yet to be heard out loud.
  4. Event details including venue, timings and rough agenda will be communicated through the event newsletter to chapter members.
  5. Younger members attending events both physically and virtually must be accompanied by parents / guardians.

Why?

We live in times when shallow intelligence is a commodity and deep thought is quite possibly as rare as a Padparadscha Sapphire. We’d like to change that by building a community of explosive thinkers and creative learners.

In a world that is getting busier with infinite distractions and innumerable but low quality connections, we’d like to increase opportunities for meaningful discourses and strong, deep-rooted relationships that stem from them.
